Child and teddy - Artist - Anat Ronen - acrylic on canvass - 30" x 24" - 2009. A native of Israel, Anat has now established her home in Houston. Her primary drive is to be original, so projects always start from scratch. She listens to the needs, learns about the clients, and combines all the ingredients in her work.
Security - Artist - Jim Lively - acrylic on canvass - 24" x 48" - 2009. A former attorney turned full time artist, Jim Lively spends his days pursuing his love of art. The upper part of the painting is pretty self-explanatory. The little girl with piercing green eyes although vulnerable is secure with a comforting hand on her shoulder. I purposefully painted the hand a little weathered to add character which does not show up well in the image. The lower part of the painting depicts with simply drawn 5 figures (what a child might draw on a blackboard) respresenting the 1 out of 5 statistic. 4 figures in white face one direction while one figure in black faces the opposite direction.

Tiny flag pride - Artist - Fabian A. Guerrero - pastel on paper, 20" x 24" - 2009. Artist statement -
I have tried to do a comparison of this small flag with the flag of this country. A strong patriotic symbol; which is freely flying everywhere. Symbol which I respect and admire both. But, it is often associated with the word "pride". Therefore, all the small flags planted around the entire city into green areas, can be viewed in the same way; The small flag of pride.
On the other hand, I also imagine that such a small flag, may be a small country where we do not see; A country below the grass. An underworld, so to speak; Perhaps, the country of ants. http://www.flickr.com/photos/fabianguerrero/
